Norwich City Council have been working in partnership with City College Norwich for well over 10 years supplying compost, pots, plug plants and seeds that are grown on by learning difficulty students into mature plants mainly for civic plantings on highways, housing and parks and gardens but also for community led plantings.

In 2018 through Norwich City Council's Enabling Team a pilot project called "Growing Communities Partnerships" was set up and successfully ran for one year, more community groups have been invited to Get Involved in 2019.

PURPOSE OF THE PARTNERSHIPS and NETWORK:

  1. Provide an opportunity and enable City College Norwich Students to grow plants in their living classroom (greenhouses), learn at real life locations about horticulture, social interaction and value.

  2. Provide plants for floral and sustainable displays of horticultural excellence to attract visitors and trade to the City of Norwich and benefit residents through living landscapes giving a feeling of well being.

  3. Provide plants for natural and bio diverse landscapes, that help supply a food source for native insects and wildlife and habitat.

  4. Provide an opportunity for community groups and volunteers to support and Get Involved in a city wide initiative to produce cost effective plants for their groups to use in local neighbourhoods plantings.

  5. Be of mutual benefit to all partners’ economic, educational, awareness, well being and social value.
